Synopsis
Just a few years ago, the winter garden at The Picton Garden was just an overgrown mass of shrubs. Today, it shows how cleverly combining plants can produce a colourful early year display. It has a snowdrop collection of around 300 varieties but rather than just being white like so many snowdrop gardens, this has snowdrops growing among crocus, early iris, winter aconites, and the brightly coloured stems of cornus. Early flowering shrubs and trees, including hamamelis and prunus add to the display. The garden is run by two horticulturists and is the home of the Plant Heritage National Collection of Michaelmas daisies.
