Synopsis
The Nomura house offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy Samurai family in the Edo period. The small, lush, garden surrounding the house is loosely based on the style of the great landscape designer Kobori Enshu. It is a brilliant example of compression containing so many elements of japanese stroll gardens; water, placed rocks, stone lanterns, clipped pine trees, stone stepping stones and bridges. In late autumn its more fragile stone ornaments are wrapped in highly decorative straw blankets and its pine trees protected by rope and bamboo Yukitsuri. It is primarilly intended now to be viewed from the house where all these images were taken.
