Synopsis
A superb example of just what can be achieved even in the most modest of back gardens. An unexpected surprise of abundant planting, setting off a sophisticated outdoor space for social soirees, hides behind a modest semi-detached house in Lichfield. As you step out of the house you are met with a riot of vibrant reds, blazing oranges and bright yellows. A carefully curated colour scheme not just restricted to the joyful mass of flowers, but cleverly laced throughout the foliage as well, with calming accents of white and creams. Steering away from the standard suburban approach, the existing lawn (small, patchy and uninspiring) was banished, in favour of generous, sweeping planting beds, with large specimen shrubs, giving height and volume, breaking up the space and creating a feeling of being enveloped within the garden. A stylish porcelain patio provides a tasteful space for barbeques and alfresco dining, leading onwards to a path winding elegantly past a trickling water feature, down to the bottom of the garden. Here a rose climbs charmingly over a wooden pergola, sheltering a smaller more intimate seating space, perfect for sipping wine in the last of the evening sun. Clever design incorporated all the elements that the client desired, even including an endearing little garden shed nestled in one corner. The garden delivers more than you would ever expect from what was such a small and ordinary space.
