Synopsis
This beautiful garden overlooks a quiet valley on descending levels with terraces designed by Norman Jewson in the 1930s. Enclosed by Cotswold stone walls and yew hedges, the garden has all year-round interest. Geometric beds are planted with many varieties of snowdrops including Galanthus 'Ruth Birchall' who developed the garden through the 1980s and 1990s. Her son and daughter-in-law manage the garden today. A winter step garden with delightful scents and textures leads through the knot garden and down to a bog garden with streams and waterfalls. There are lots of winter interest plants as well as snowdrops, including scented daphnes, Garrya elliptica, Sarcococca confusa and delicate winter iris, Iris unguicularis.
