Barn House

In July Kat and Hitesh Patel moved in, there was lots of room on the sun baked terrace for their van loads of pots, grasses & bamboos but there was no shade for them. There was an orchard, plus a flat but neglected soft fruit area.

Synopsis
Viewing Barn House in March 2006, the garden was brimming with daffodils. the couples minds were made up before they reached the front door. Without step-free wheel barrow access, from the top of the garden to the yard below, transporting heavy loads was a challenge.

Most of the trees were either keeling over or loomed ominously close to the house. There was some useful perennial planting but it was choked by exuberant weeds. From the house, the uninspiring upward slope, covered in patchy grass hinted at the shelving rock beneath. Primarily, it showcased cars parked along the drive. Between July & November 2006 they discovered how hard it was going to be to dig even a modest sized hole. 100 tonnes of rock were excavated to install storm drainage. To create an aspect would be a major project, involving diggers, road drills, the transplanting of masses of daffodils ....Four years were spent, gathering thoughts, plants & weed proofing materials.
