Synopsis
The garden at Falkners Cottage has been made by Anne and John Thomspon-Ashby since 2009, with detailed garden rooms around the house, shaped by yew and hornbeam hedges. The Seed Pod garden is focused around a striking sculpture by Ted Edley, a copper seedpod containing pebble seeds, immersed in planting of oranges and purples including salvias, Aster x frikartii 'Monch', and many dahlias including 'Babylon Bronze' and 'Cornel Brons'. The parterre garden has four box-edged beds full of white and pink flowers such as cosmos and Gaura 'Whirling Butterflies' with a sculpture by Zimbabwean artist Antony Masamba at its centre. Beyond the confines of these intimate spaces the garden opens out toward a boundary stream, encompassing a meadow dotted with trees, a bog garden, a small woodland and a small lake with an island where a summerhouse provides a place of peace and reflection.
