Derry Watkins Special Plants Garden in Late Summer

An informal country garden nestled into a valley near Bath in the UK. It is at its peak in late summer when the generous borders are full of grasses, dahlias, salvias and a wealth of less usual flowers and foliage.

Synopsis
This is the garden of respected plantswoman Derry Watkins, who runs the Special Plants Nursery on the same site. The soil is mostly clay which has been improved with regular mulching over the past 25 years, producing several beds with generous informal planting. Nearer the house are areas of gravel for plants that prefer free drainage and further down the hill there is a woodland garden. The garden is open on Tuesdays throughout the summer and on some Thursdays for the National Gardens Scheme.
