Basil Pot

Many herbs are fussy about where they live, and sun-loving herbs such as basil originate from India and the Middle East, and prefer their roots on the dry side.

Synopsis
Basil has been cultivated in the Mediterranean for thousands of years, valued for its aromatic leaves to flavour foods or, medicinally, to aid digestion. The name derives from the Greek words Basilikon phuton which translate as 'kingly herb' so it is no surprise to learn that it was apparently planted around Christ's tomb after his resurrection. By Elizabethan times, sweet basil was a popular remedy for colds and headaches, but today its greatest value lies in its culinary uses.
