A Family Affair

Rarely does an outstanding garden emerge from a collaboration between mother and daughter, but when one is an experienced plantswoman, and the other an eminent garden designer, the outcome can be spectacular.

Synopsis
Garden Designer, Kate Gould describes the garden as a ‘pretty country style’, reasonably contemporary with a bold framework, lots of evergreen structure and ‘plant heavy’. ‘My style is fairly linear, softened by planting. Yew balls form the mainstay of the evergreen structure, providing an anchor for masterly planting that fills the beds. Created on a budget, the hard landscaping is mostly salvaged from the original garden with bricks re-used on the garden path, whilst only a small amount of additional paving was required. ‘The plants were the major expense, but I’d still call it a thrifty garden,’ she notes.
