Synopsis
The entire garden is second in size only to Buckingham Palace garden, but this feature concerns itself only with the parterre and summer garden in winter. It has a very formal layout of yew hedges and it is the combination of the strict lines with the grasses and climbing plants which create the magic in the frost. It was laid out in the 1960s by Peter Coats, but substantially modified since the 1980s by Stephen Crisp. He runs it on low-cost, sustainable lines.
