It is approached at the back of the stone cottage by steps into a series of garden rooms with formal box hedging and topiary with colourful tulips and herbaceous planting. A small terraced potager takes advantage of the sunny aspect at the top of the garden where there are wonderful views over the surrounding fells. New garden rooms have recently been added; two small formal lawns with hornbeam hedges and yew balls lead to a long rill with soft planting of Camassia, ending with a small hot garden which returns via a cleft oak gate to the other areas. Claire opens her garden for the National Garden Scheme. The garden has been made from a burgage plot which would have provided self sufficiency in bygone days.
