Synopsis
Bold perennial planting softened by grasses, and complemented by an extensive wildflower meadow, captured in the misty sunrise of a sunny summer’s day. The garden frames a traditional oak barn and flows out into borrowed vistas of surrounding countryside. There is also a secret (tiny) cottage garden tucked away on the other side of the barn. The owner is an up-and-coming garden designer who strives to recreate the ancient Greek idea of Arcadia, ‘that time when everything was perfect, everything was beautiful, everything was peaceful.’ The garden sits on heavy clay, improved to allow grasses to thrive as well as those plants which thrive naturally in heavier soil. The owner uses the space to try out different planting combinations which she can then offer clients. Her design practice is called Chasing Arcadia, which is also the working title of the immediately available copy.
