Synopsis
Created from nothing on a space filled with dumped bikes, old lawnmowers and sheds, complete with old concrete garage footings, this project has seen the huge transformation of a derelict site. Steve was inspired by Christopher Lloyd’s exotic garden at Great Dixter where he saw plants unlike any he had seen before. He had to overcome many challenges to realise his dreams. As well as site clearance, the soil needed conditioning and areas created with micro-climates in order to keep year-round interest using evergreen and tender plants. The garden is frequently opened for charity on selected dates through late summer, but he says the main reason for making it is to "unwind, lose myself and play outside as an adult.”
