Synopsis
The owners of this Old Florida Style garden also wanted variety and a complete jungle. To achieve this effect Craig Reynolds award winning garden designer and landscape architect selected 12-14 palms and at least a dozen of different species of bromeliads. Brightly coloured leaves of all shapes and sizes are planted in a range of quirky containers, dwarf Cyprus prolifer and water lilies thrive in the pond. Despite the extensive variety of plants, textures, shapes and sizes this grotto like tropical retreat achieves a sense of harmony and uniformity thanks to plant repetition and massing. As Craig says, ‘Using masses of plants unifies a textural, heavily planted garden”. By repeating the masses a sense of continuity is obtained, which has transformed this Floridian garden into a tropical getaway.
