Synopsis
The main attraction was the unusually long plot which, marked out in 1865, finished at an ancient ditch that once fed into the River Lea. Today, the ditch has long disappeared into the shadow of a massive 120-year-old lime tree that overhangs the back boundary, defying all but the toughest of plants to grow in the dry shade beneath. 'Grass couldn't survive and it was so dry that even ivy struggled,' they note.
