Synopsis
One of Sue Townsend's first commissions as a garden designer posed her some special problems. How to make a small Suffolk garden work for a family house and an adjoining holiday cottage? The site was all at the front of a pretty period house and shaded in part by two large lime trees but the client wanted something simple, unfussy and streamlined with an emphasis on good planting, room for some specially commissioned sculptures - oh and a vegetable garden squeezed in too.

In fact Sue herself and husband Andrew were the clients and this design project gave Sue the chance to work out many of her theories and to fit them to real needs, ones that she understood only too well. As it turned out the successful design and creation of the garden went a long way to Sue gaining her full membership of the Society of Garden Designers.
