Synopsis
Where once scrap cars and rusty railings covered the ground, there are now herbaceous borders, arches, a gravel garden and raised cut flower beds which, come midsummer, spill over with pompom dahlias, coneflowers and lilies. Lynn loves flowers, and each year scours the catalogues for the latest annuals to fill the many containers that are dotted around the garden, or arranged outside their Victorian cottage. About a decade ago, they purchased an additional piece of land a few steps below the existing garden, which they have landscaped to create a wide terrace for entertaining. Edging the terrace are beds filled with roses and wildlife friendly plants, and a nearby slate path leads to a half-moon raised pool to encourage frogs and newts. Hedgehogs are regular visitors, breeding so successfully, that some of this year’s babies are now being resettled in local gardens.
