Synopsis
Gravel gardens surrounding neat circular lawns feature clipped yew, box and cloud-pruned Luma apiculata, as well as deciduous Crataegus × lavalleei 'Carrierei' shaped as lollipops. Melianthus major, euphorbias and winter flowering shrubs such as Viburnum carlesii ‘Aurora’ also contribute interest, as do hellebores and the fat rosy shoots of peonies as they push their way up through the earth. A large conservatory is home to a Muscat grapevine, pink passionflower and other tender plants.
