Synopsis
The construction of the model garden was started in 1985. Existing trees and shrubs were incorporated which gave the garden natural hornbeam and beech hedges from the start. A second advantage was that the existing trees, such as the black birch (Betula nigra) and hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) provided shady areas while the remainder of the garden enjoyed full sun light. This made it possible to use a diverse assortment of plants: shadow-loving plants for the shady areas and sun-loving plants on the lighter spots. The composition of the plant scheme, with the accent on the perennials, has always been the basic starting point. This is the reason that the garden design remained very simple.
