Synopsis
The house is part of a small group of houses originally built in the early 19th century, possibly for housing soldiers during the Napoleonic War. The owner, Sue Key Burr wanted a contemporary cottage garden effect, but with easy access for maintenance for her and her husband. The planting includes some of the designers favourite perennials notably Phlox, Achillea, Stipa arundinacea, Helenium and Alchemilla mollis. Set against willow hurdle fencing opposite modern wood batten fencing, this small space is full of interest most of the year. Sue opens her garden in the summer on specific dates for charity. In the corner there is a small shed for storage next to a garden mirror creating a focal point to increase the sense of space, and a stone patio has been created next to the house with wood furniture to give easy access for entertaining in the summer.
