Synopsis
The garden owners Howard and David's ultimate goal was to make a garden for all seasons and ensure that the garden was as interesting and well-clothed in winter and autumn as in summer and spring. Just a third of an acre, this riverside garden looks especially wonderful however in August and September. Visitors first view is the lush, tropical collection of pots, including two huge Ethiopian Plantains. Dark leaved foliage contrasts with hot pink flowers of Dahlias and artfully combined bedding plants plus a splash of bright orange Canna. Once there was room to park several cars here, but now they can barely turn around, they have so many pots! Then there is the gravel garden, backed by white stemmed Betula, with a silver theme and splashes of black, and at this time fading Alliums. A well planted mixed border, with specimen trees Acer griseum and Cercidiphyllum, under planted in muted shades of blue and pink, with Asters, Grasses, Sedums, Eupatorium and shiny deep purple black Pittosporum . A hot border packs a punch with Agapanthus, Crocosmia and more Dahlias. Walking towards the river and down weathered railway sleeper steps colonised with Erigeron, is the wonderful view across the meadows towards Rye.
