Synopsis
The original garden consisted of little more than lawns, a mature magnolia, a handful of old apple and pear trees, and random clumps of pampas grass dotted about. As a novice gardener faced with a large blank canvas, the couple first commissioned Acres Wild Garden Design to create a practical design that focused on hard landscaping — a new south-facing terrace and pathways to link the house with the wider garden. When it came to planting, they had a limited budget, so incorporated all the existing plants into newly formed beds and borders, adding specimen shrubs and small trees to add structure amidst spring bulbs, ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials that peak from late summer into autumn.
