Synopsis
Designed and planted during the last seven years, this 18 metre x 14 metre rear garden is the work of its owners, who have a passion for sub-tropical plants such as palms, olives, paulownia, bougainvillea, agapanthus, bamboos and cacti, rising above a carpet of brightly coloured flowers - salvias, tithonias, cleome, abutilons, canna, dahlias, zinnias and lobelia. In the centre rests a small, circular, sunken lawn, a necessary foil to the riot of colours around. Closer inspection reveals it is artificial grass, a clever alternative to the original living lawn that never thrived. To one side of the south-facing garden, a winding path travels between raised beds, arriving at a small summerhouse, seating area and outdoor kitchen. A beautifully conceived and maintained outdoor space.
