Synopsis
Tucked away down a deep valley in the High Weald, West Sussex, Mill House dates back, in some parts, to the 17th century and offers stunning views over a beautiful pond. One of its past owners, Maude Haworth-Booth, was a passionate gardener; a friend of William Robinson, she shared many of his ideas on planting. But her garden was long gone when the current owners Alison and Graeme Musker, bought the property in 1998. They contacted Alex Bell to help them take on the challenge of this large garden with particular growing conditions. Close to the house, the garden is on a slope and the ground is, in some parts, very damp with the presence of the pond especially in winter. The collaboration with Alex continues to this day, a new project is tackled every year.
