In recent years they've started appearing as tasty, eye-catching garnishes on restaurant plates. They can be grown on a window sill and will flourish even in the depths of winter. Yet few gardeners realise quite how quick and ridiculously easy microgreens are to grow at home - no matter what time of year it is. All that's required are seeds, a shallow tray and several sheets of kitchen roll or capillary matting for them to grow on, some kind of a transparent cover, such as cling film or a plastic bag, and water.
