Kitchen Garden in Containers

Picking fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden is a real treat. Not only does it have oodles more flavour than anything bought cellophane-wrapped from a supermarket, but there's a deep sense of satisfaction that comes from eating home-grown food.

Synopsis
'When you grow something yourself, you appreciate it in a different way - it's a natural extension if you cook,' says Laura Washburn Hutton, a cookery writer and blogger who grows a lot of edibles in pots in her tiny London garden, wedged between a water butt and the backdoor. 'Having them handy in pots means that if the weather isn't too good and you only want a handful of herbs, you don't have to trek over a muddy lawn to the veggie patch,' she points out.
