Synopsis
Untended for almost two years, it had, in the past been very well cared for and as a result I inherited a wonderfully rich deep topsoil. Digging down, you hit clay and lots of it , deep and fertile but turning into concrete in a dry summer. Some drainage has been dug in but mulching now has become a bit of a obsession - 2-3 inches of small bark chips over the beds as often as I can affort it...... and the water butt count to date stands at 6 ! Structurally there was not much here and this provided the perfect blank canvas on which to work. With a background in Theatre Design I drew up my plan and built a scale model!
