Synopsis
Despite the tiny 5mx6m patio garden, he still had the urge to grow and create something similar to what he was familiar with as a child in Columbia. Like many small gardens, it is layered to create an illusion of a larger space. With tree ferns, elephant ears, acers and cordylines forming the main structure, down to smaller plants like Sempervivum, Erigeron and succulents in clay pots and containers filling the tiniest of spaces. The property was a new-build when he bought it, so the garden was an empty space. He brought in 50 bags of topsoil to create suitable conditions and even bought earth worms online! The apartment is a classic case of where the garden is used as an extension of the living space. He has doors that open the full width of the lounge and the houseplants and orchids merge with those outside. All part of the illusion of space.
