Synopsis
Hügelkultur is a German word that translates to hill culture and is a horticultural technique where wood and other compostable material is mounded to create a raised bed that promotes soil fertility and water retention. In this example we have layered logs, branches, cuttings and leaves in a trench and covered with soil with a green manure sown on top. The addition of a green manure seed mix will further enhance soil fertility creating a raised bed ideal for planting on the following Spring.
