Synopsis
Founded in 1969 by David Howard and Nick Kooij with a few stock plants and half an acre of rented land, Howard Nurseries Ltd has grown into a very well respected and established nursery growing a range of perennials on land now covering 150 acres. And is considered to be one of the foremost perennial producers in the UK. Particularly well known for their Iris, this feature captures their extensive collection of tall bearded Iris including Sir Cedric Morris varieties grown traditionally in open fields on a quintessentially beautiful early morning in May with orange and pink skies. With their glamorous theatrical flower heads in a range of intense colours from deep purple verging on black see Iris Black Swan to the rich rusty warm tones of Iris Carnival Time to the pale and demure by comparison, Iris White City; here is surely an Iris to suit all tastes. This feature is a celebration of a truly beautiful plant, grown with an abiding passion, looking spectacular en masse in fields in the early morning light in May.
