Synopsis
It was during the early 1900s when the plant-hunter, Ernest Wilson, brought many new plants back from China that the garden was started by the grandfather of the present owners, Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks CBE, who have cared for the 70-acre garden and arboretum since 1988. Many of these introductions have since grown into towering rhododendrons and exotic trees that fill the secluded woodland valleys, creating scenes that are, says Lawrence, more reminiscent of the Himalayas than the Welsh Marches.
