Synopsis
The Gardens at Great Dixter have long been synonymous with the late gardener and author Christopher Lloyd, whose father Nathanial Lloyd bought the house and co-designed the gardens from 1910. Christopher learned his gardening skills from his mother Daisy who was the practical gardener in the family and many decades later Great Dixter remains a favourite for visitors year round. When the Lloyd family moved in, there were no actual gardens, just a couple of mixed orchards and a few trees scattered over the land, some of which remain today. Most of the garden was designed by Edwin Lutyens. There are formal, topiary, meadows, mixed borders, a walled and exotic gardens which provide a gloriously varied circuit around the house.
