Synopsis
Formal elements include a hornbeam allee with rill and reflective obelisk, a sequence of sweeping terraces around the house inspired by Hestercombe garden that feature clipped box hedges, a circular pond and seating areas. Deep purple campanula has self-seeded between stones producing a fabulous pop of colour in May, and a feast for invertebrates. Informal parts include the lovely orchard, with ox-eye daisies, camassias and Allium siculum mixed in with the grass, a large lake surrounded by moisture loving plants including rodgersias and candelabra primulas, and a mass of fine shrubs and trees including many acers, cornuses and birches. A formal vegetable garden of raised beds and willow plant supports is just stirring into life.
