Synopsis
Along one side runs a deep herbaceous border, at its best in late summer, a lush mix of asters, rudbeckias, eupatoriums and dahlias. Late summer and autumn see produce a plenty bursting from the rich soil of the kitchen garden with the backdrop of the medieval building rising behind. Lines of hearty cabbages and lettuce form patterns of intense colour and texture while ornamentals including dahlias and argyranthemums keep flowering alongside the central path until the first frosts. Other features include a bog garden, arboretum and a sequence of ponds, one of which features the Centenary Fountain, at a maximum height of 160ft the highest powered fountain in England. Open every day of the year.
