Synopsis
Field Farm is located in the region of the Teme Valley, Worcestershire, where hops have been grown since the 17th century. When Kim and Rob Hurst moved at Field Farm, the remnants of this traditional cultivation were all too present. The yard was a collection of discarded farming equipment and standing proud amongst these was a dutch barn which used to house an old hop picking machine. Rather than erasing all signs of this past life, they decided to embrace and incorporate them into the creation of their new garden. In July, the sweeping borders are packed with perennials and grasses, bright splashes of colour are dotted around with Crocosmias and Echinaceas. By the silo, the gravel garden retains a cooler palette; Echinops, Eryngiums and Verbena bonariensis sway in the breeze. Here and there, salvaged containers have been planted by Kim, thus creating additional displays. This is something Kim is experienced in, having exhibited at numerous flower shows. Along with Rob, they have been running the Cottage
Herbery for 45 years. Their nursery has won many awards including several Chelsea Gold medals for their high quality herbs as well as aromatic plants.
