Ellicar in May

Ellicar was an institution rather than a home when Sarah and Will Murch took it on. However they could see past the chaos to the site's potential as a long term family home and as garden designer and nurseryman respectively had the required skills.

Synopsis
Planting began in 2011 and over the next three years Sarah and Will planted over 250 specimen trees, hundreds of shrubs, herbaceous perennials and grasses and thousands of bulbs, buying in help when needed. 'I wanted the planting to have a wild, open feel. I love Piet Oudolf's style of planting and my favourite garden is Knoll Gardens in Dorset which is full of ornamental grasses. Those were both massive inspirations for me', explains Sarah. In May the garden fizzes with energy as late spring flowers bloom including alliums, irises and astrantias, and the natural swimming pond, the centre of the garden, greens up for the new season. Beauty, use and wildlife come together in this gorgeous country garden.
