Synopsis
An elegant, formal garden inspired by the Mediterranean, set around a converted 18th century granite barn near Marazion in the far west of Cornwall with far reaching views to St Michael's Mount. Christine and Charles Taylor have transformed the site from a muddy livery stable to a stylish garden with the help of designer Ian Lowe. It forms a wonderful setting for their successful bed and breakfast business.

Intimate courtyards around the barn are decorated with terracotta pots and stone planters filled with fragrant lavender, lilies, box topiary and standard bay trees. A raised terrace gives views over a box parterre with central fountain framed by date palms, fig and olive trees. These enclosed spaces filled with the scent of herbs open out onto informal lawns giving views over Mounts Bay. Further on is the Italian garden where tall privet hedges enclose avenues and classical statues. Finally a winding path follows a gravel border planted with an exotic mix of succulents, phormiums, palms and grasses before reaching four olive trees and a secret patio.
