Dyffryn Fernant Gardens

Christina Shand has been gardening at Dyffryn Fernant since 1996, taking over an unloved six acres that was rejected for farming because of a lack of top soil, abundance of rock & underlying thick blue clay that rendered much of the land into marsh & bog.

Synopsis
It was a wilderness, but slowly Christina tamed the areas around the old cottage and its outbuildings, creating areas of naturalistic planting, a sheltered area around the library filled with tender specials, a formal garden of clipped shapes in the former rickyard, and a bog garden which is a triumph of determination over mud.
