Synopsis
As a garden flower, modern hybrids are hard to beat for the length of their flowering season which stretches from late April until first frosts. But that's by no means all. Roses also evoke strong emotions of love and romance, and are steeped in nostalgia, tradition and cultural significance. Garden roses can be traced back to the ancient Greeks who used Damasks in their perfumes, whilst Gallicas were prized by the Romans for their medicinal powers. Ever since, roses have had an almost human quality which has inspired prose, poetry and passion through the ages.
