Synopsis
The challenging, windswept conditions once meant this garden won a Sky television award for the best of three gardens in Scotland, all located on difficult sites. Tucked behind the house is a jewel of a miniature walled garden complete with a rectangular pond connected by a short canal to a bubble shape fountain. Known as a ‘mirror pond’ it reflects small trees, clouds and sun light. Margaret’s knowledge of plants is key to the simple background scheme of year round plants and the climbers that soften the grey stone walls. Below the house the garden falls away in a series of alpine and rose terraces while the drive runs between a burn and a row of oversize beehive shaped laurels.
