Synopsis
By employing the skills and vision of London based garden designer Peter Reader, they have married formal and informal design with a very sleek contemporary feel. By utilising the three existing brick walls that enclosed the garden Peter could create informal relaxed spaces set within formal structured lines. A design trick often used by the Edwardian arts and crafts duo Edward Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll. The strong lines carved into the lawn echo the lines of the modern garden room, that has been added to the rear of the house to view the garden from. The contemporary garden pond with a blade fall sits perfectly within the straight edges of the design. Yet nearby are beds softly planted with Verbena bonariensis, Erigeron karvinskianus Japanese anemones and Alchemilla mollis, interspersed with evergreen shrubs. Cast your eye to the rear of the garden and you will find a wild flower meadow and fruit trees. With interesting artefacts such as the Armillary Sundial and steel sculpture of a water idol, to the tube map of the northern line, your eye is drawn to key focal points throughout the garden. This feature illustrates a wonderful fusion of traditional arts and crafts inspired design with contemporary landscaping softened with informal planting. Providing the perfect space for grown-ups to play.
