Synopsis
Next to the house is small deck area for storage. There is a border with perennials, and combined with plants in containers, they surround a mirror, creating the illusion of a much bigger green space near the back door. The main garden area is built around a reclaimed wood dining ‘room’ with table and custom made cushions for the seating. Next to this is a bespoke reclaimed brick barbecue with another mirror situated above. Hard wearing artificial grass has been used as a lawn replacement, making it a more suitable play area for children. Cedar battened trellis was used as a replacement for fencing, and trained with Trachelospermum jasmnoides, creating a contemporary feel. And the rear wall was painted grey, making the area brighter. A clematis has been planted next to the wall and once mature, will start to soften the hard brickwork. The site had a few existing plants from an earlier deaign, and in particular, a beautiful acer tree near the house. These were incorporated into the design, giving this small London space a mature feel, making a perfect family space.
