Synopsis
This garden is set around a restored farmhouse and has been created since the late 1990s. It's a windswept site, right on the coast, surrounded by pasture land and sea views, the soil is poor and stony though much improved over the past decade with lashings of manure and compost. Structure is a combination of Purbeck stone walls and evergreen shrubs and trees that create a sequence of distinct but connecting spaces. Piece de resistance in summer is the orchard, a modern 'flowery mead' created using plug plants and self seeders.

On a sunny day the air is noisy with the sound of insects enjoying the mix of daisies, poppies, corncockles, nigella and escholzias. The original farm pond still exists, with an enigmatic stone tower nearby, elements that give this sophisticated garden a slightly primitive edge.
