Synopsis
Sited on the north Devon coast, Clovelly Court garden is a fine example of a classic Victorian walled kitchen garden complete with restored glasshouses. It opened to the public a decade ago after a period of restoration and now shows visitors a real working kitchen garden, where the emphasis is very much on edibles in an ornamental setting. During the summer the glasshouses are bursting with produce including peaches, nectarines, tomatoes, cucumbers and melons some grown using traditional techniques.

Biological pest control and companion planting is practiced to reduce use of chemicals. Flowers that attract insects such as Verbena bonariensis are planted to encourage pollinators. Produce is sold to the local community and supplies hotels in the village below. Houses in the village show an inventive use of pots and containers in tiny spaces.
