Synopsis
Penny has dressed the garden with old stone troughs, galvanised metal baths and watering cans, weathered terracotta urns and peeling metal gates; the delicious planting is a mix of shrubs, herbaceous plants and trees that have a gnarled, aged look to them even when young including corkscrew hazel and unusual Robinia 'Twisty Baby'. On a south-facing slope the garden is divided into distinct rooms around an L-shaped barn, and includes many evergreen and clipped shrubs, one of the reasons the garden looks great all through the year. In spring new leaves and small bulbs light up the garden.
