Synopsis
'We were unfazed by having a triangular-shaped garden because it falls so naturally into three distinct areas around our Victorian cottage,' explain Barry and Melanie. A shady front lends itself to woodland, whilst the south-facing far corner is planted with herbaceous borders. In between lies a back courtyard filled with large pots of plants, forming a lovely view from the bedroom balcony that Melanie, office manager at a software company, enjoys on sunny mornings. 'It's laid out so that we never catch more than a glimpse of the garden from the house - that way there's always an incentive to go outside,' adds Barry, a garden designer who since 2006 has transformed the quarter acre garden at Brooke Cottage, Cheshire.
