Synopsis
The owners, Mark and Angela Chambers, have spent nearly a decade creating this hidden gem, a serene place to wander at will, or to linger as secret corners unfold at each turn of the ancient site. A dwelling has stood here since mediaeval times, and Mark and Angela were only too aware from the outset that great care must be taken to balance the old with the new. 'The garden needed a lot of work — some areas could best be described as wilderness — but any changes had to respect the heritage whilst also incorporating imaginative contemporary touches,' they explain. New additions include gloriously balanced, long herbaceous borders, a waterfall that tumbles into a lake fed with rainwater from the manor's roofs, and a formal rose parterre around a still pool in the walled garden.
