Synopsis
The brief was to create an adult dining courtyard area as well as a playing area for their children. The family entertained regularly and the husband was a keen cook. Karen designed a neat dining terrace that was accessed directly from the kitchen. This terrace was secluded from the rest of the garden and was screened by pleached hornbeams from the neighbours house. An outdoor kitchen area was also built to allow the husband to cook whilst still being part of his friends conversation. The designer with the landscaper - Sean Spurdle ' External Concepts, designed a garden play area that incorporated a shed for storing tools, chairs and toys and tree house for the children to play in. The garden shed and tree house was built around the existing purple beech tree trunk and the ladder to the upper play area was cleverly disguised by plants. To create a focal point the designer built a terrace area at the end of the garden which was in the sunniest part of the garden. This terrace was to be used by the owners to relax in, away from the house but still in safe proximity to the children's tree house.
