Synopsis
The rear garden is a sheltered and shaded environment that showcases the owner’s Hosta collection alongside many other interesting plants and features. These include a raised pond with fish and a small terraced patio with pergola. There are surrounding beds, a small lawn, potting sheds, a greenhouse, specimen shrubs and trees. The front gravel garden has a more open southerly aspect and is devoted to dry loving plants such as golden hops and borders of herbaceous perennials such as Veronicastrum. The owner Lorraine Dingwall runs the garden on a shoe-string, propagating her Hostas and protecting them from slug and snail damage with a solution of crushed garlic, frozen into ice cubes to store and use when needed.
