Synopsis
A Chinese inspired garden set on a steep, sloping site above the town of Westbury in Wiltshire. The English owners, who are fascinated by China; its culture and tradition of gardening, visit the country regularly and are even learning to speak Mandarin. Distinct areas include the Scholar's Garden including a 'welcoming pine', Pinus mugo, and a fat man, a symbol of prosperity; the Red Wall Garden featuring a 'Harvesting the Moon' pavilion, a 30 year old mulberry, Morus nigra, and a zig-zag pathway, to deter demons; the Kitchen Garden, full of produce and bounded on one side by a white wall containing a Moongate for access. The garden opens in the summer for the National Gardens Scheme.
